Cisco Buys WebEx

It's no secret that Cisco is (aiming to be) one of Citrix' biggest competitors. Cisco has amplified this suspicion even further by buying WebEx. WebEx is a company that deals in online services. Note the word "online". WebEx' biggest competitor is/was Citrix Online. As a matter of fact, WebEx even sued Citrix some time ago for stealing it's domains. Outside of that, it doesn't take a intergalatical brain surgeon to see that Cisco is moving into Citrix' (Online) market space (even more).
Citrix Online offers:
GoToAssist
GoToMyPC
GoToMeeting
GoToWebinar

WebEx Offers almost the same services:
Support Center
PCNow
MeetMeNow
Event Center

If you take a look at it from another perspective, then you could say that Citrix' clearly has moved into the market space of Cisco by their acquisition of Net6, NetScaler, Teros and Orbital Data. for their Netscaler, WANScaler and Access Gateway Platforms. Either way, it will be interesting to see this lands...

how to create a Vista Virtual Machine

to Create a VM in VMware or MS Virtual server do the following;

  • Run (on the virtual machine)
  • CD to c:\Windows\System32\sysprep
  • Run: sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe (make sure you select shut down from the popup)
  • Vista shuts down
  • Maybe you use Undo Disks for your VMs, than Merge the Undo Disk
  • Copy the VHD and VMC to another system (or VMDK, VMX)
  • Add to Virtual Server
  • Change any properties (NIC card, CD-ROM, etc)
  • Start the VM
  • Watch as the VM goes through mini-setup
  • Enter in your license key

Now you have a unique VM, new SID and all the rest...

Microsoft Office 2007 Known Issues on presentation server

maybe you are struggling with the installation and configuration of Office 2007 on a presentation server?
Citrix has dedicated a CTX article for this. some of the issues are;

  • File Type Association: File extensions for Office Excel 2007, Office Word 2007, and Office PowerPoint 2007 do not show up on Access Management Console Content Redirection tabs.
  • Office Word 2007 Quick Parts insertions and fields are replaced by images when highlighted inside an ICA session.
  • In Office Word 2007, the Paste command invokes the server-side clipboard.
  • Office Word 2007 has a performance issue with memory utilization, when using Installed Templates in an ICA session on a multi-monitor client.
  • 100 percent CPU utilization is caused by csrss.exe and wfshell.exe when trying to launch Office Word 2007 with content redirection enabled. As a workaround, restart all affected servers.
  • 2007 Microsoft Office features, such as Quick Parts and ClearType, are not working in a Presentation Server environment. Citrix is working to address these issues.

Upon attempted installation of the 2007 Microsoft Office system in a Terminal Server environment, you may receive an error message similar to the following:

This copy of Microsoft Office “application” cannot be used on a Terminal Server. Please contact your local Microsoft retailer for more information.

Licensing enforcement for the 2007 Office system has changed. A Volume License edition will be required for the 2007 system applications to launch in a Terminal Service environment. Please contact your appropriate resources to obtain proper licensing and software.

keep looking at this article because they updated regularly as they find issues and workarounds/fixes.
